Melt butter in a large saucepot. Saute onions in butter 'till brown. Add curry and cook 1 minute, stirring. Add the rest of the ingredients except the sour cream and chives. Heat to boiling, cover and simmer until vegetables and fruit are soft, about 30 minutes. Process with a blender on high speed until smooth. Blend in sour cream. Serve hot or cold, garnished with chives.
